Custom lei orders: Making lei begins by gathering flowers, ferns, seeds and other elements from nature depending on the purpose for the lei. Many lei are made to mahalo or honor our loved ones. We make each lei to order with flowers and greenery harvested fresh (the day or evening prior of your pick-up date). Typically each lei takes 1 to 2 hours to make after all materials are gathered and prepped. [These are not flower crowns made with floral tape and wire].
Type of lei: We make lei po'o (head lei), lei kupe'e (wrist or ankle lei) and maile-style, ti leaf lei. We can make other types of neck lei depending on the type of lei you'd like. However, this is not our specialization (Chinatown has many lei shops that specialize in these types of lei).
Placing your custom order: The easiest way to place your order is to send us an email with the following info: type (feel free to send us pics of similar lei you like from our Instagram or website) and number of lei you'd like to order, the date and time you'd like to pick-up at our North Shore farm. We can usually accommodate orders made three-days prior to your event (occasionally we can do a next day order). Since the lei are made fresh (the night or morning of your event), we can not do large orders without having more than one lei-maker working on your order. For orders over 5 lei, please make your order one to two weeks prior so we can plan accordingly.
It is best if you text the day prior and provide a contact number for coordinating pick-up.
Details: We ask for your donation prior to making the lei to finalize your order and we can accept PayPal, Venmo or you can pay in person at our farmstand. For most head lei, we ask for a $65 donation to cover the cost of the flowers and greenery, the time in harvesting, preparing and making the lei. Keiki lei $45, lei kupe'e $25 and maile style ti- leaf lei $45.
We can not deliver and require pick-up at our farm, Waihuena Farm (see contact info for address and directions). We can ship to our neighbor islands. Mainland shipping may be possible depending on the type of lei you'd like to order (please email to inquire about shipping to the mainland).
We also teach haku or wili-style lei-making workshops at our farm (includes a farm tour of the lei flowers we grow on the farm and our 'budding' nursery of lei plants) or at our local beach across from the farm, Ehukai Beach Park (Pipeline). Sitting together and weaving these elements to make the lei is a special way to spend time with close friends and to put energy into the celebration of a life event. Please email us to inquire about upcoming workshop dates or check our upcoming events posted on our website. Tours and workshops can be held for participants of 10 people or more and we ask for a $50 donation per person to cover the cost of hosting the workshop.
